  1. About Us

About Us

Astrum Multi-Academy Trust, established in 2017, consists of two Special Schools that are split across 4 sites, alongside a specialist post-16 provision and additional support services (specialist therapy/extended schools/training partnerships), that serve students with a range of Severe and Complex Special Educational Needs across the London Borough of Redbridge and beyond. As a trust, we strive to be innovative and share best practices across the trust and the wider educational community in order to deliver high-quality education that fits the needs of all pupils, particularly the most vulnerable. Our overarching vision is to form a partnership of outstanding special schools, provisions and services that will support the Special Needs Community in Redbridge and the surrounding area by providing good opportunities for pupils and their families.

To achieve this, we are guided by the principles listed below, which are at the centre of all we do for/with our pupils and their families, as well as all our policies and procedures:

  • Safeguard
  • Strive
  • Achieve

We always ensure that the vision and values is modelled by the Board and school leaders, which are then instilled across the trust. Whilst appreciating the individuality and uniqueness of each school(s)/provision, we clearly convey the trust’s vision for its schools to all stakeholders, ensuring strategic coherence across our schools. This enables all our schools to work together to deliver the best outcomes for every pupil as part of the trust.

We will achieve our vision for the schools, provisions and services of Astrum by the following:

- Being a safe, engaging and transformative environment where pupils and staff can learn and thrive together.

- Promoting high aspirations that empower our pupils to reach their full potential

- Prioritising pupil voice, communication and agency through rich relationships with others and celebrating difference

- Being dedicated to developing independence and agency in the children and young people

- Being an innovative and inspirational organisation, where new ideas are welcomed and best practice is shared with all

- Promoting strong partnerships with families, professionals across our schools and provisions and the wider SEND community

- Being committed to pupils leaving us happy and with a smile on their face

In line with the trust’s vision and ethos, both of our schools, Newbridge School and Hatchside School, are committed to enhancing the educational landscape for SEND within their communities with the skills, expertise, and resources whilst also collaborating with other provisions to ensure the best outcomes for all children and young people. Their efforts have been recognised by the DfE, which has rated Newbridge School as Outstanding three times consistently over the last 15 years and Hatchside School a Good in both it’s pre-opening and initial term 7 inspections.

Our post-16 provision, Project Search, received a recent external review and has been identified as ‘exemplary’ to other supported internship providers.

Our extended services is the only one of it’s kind in the borough and has received consistent funding from health & social care over a period of over 20 years owing to the high quality of the provision and our newly formed therapy service is receiving high praise from families and the local authority in it’s third year, growing to a funded team of 10 specialist speech and language and occupational therapists.
