DFN Project Search
A transition to work programme for young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism

Project SEARCH is a one-year internship programme for students with learning disabilities and/or autism, whose goal is competitive employment in the community.

Astrum Multi Academy Trust have partnered with Project SEARCH, the London Borough of Redbridge and Barking Havering & Redbridge NHS Trust to provide supported internship opportunities.

Supported by a Job Coach and Tutor, students participate in three internships within the hospital to explore a variety of career paths, learning transferable work skills as they go.

Internships within the hospital could include: Portering, Catering Assistant, Receptionist, Admin Assistant, Data Entry Assistant, Stores Assistant, Ward Clark, Pharmacy Assistant and Domestic Cleaner.

A typical day includes:

Independent travel to the internship site

9:00 to 10:00 Classroom lessons in employability and independent living skills.

10:00 to 15:00 Unpaid internship at a facility or department

Interns have lunch in the hospital canteen, participate in meetings and social events with their colleagues.

15:00 to 16:00 Classroom time to discuss and debrief 

To apply you need to:

Be in Years 13 or 14 from September 2024, with an EHCP ·

Be available 5 days a week 

Have aspirations to gain paid employment during or by the end of the programme 

Are able to travel independently or are willing to attend training

Are able to attend a Skills and Assessment Day
