Our Schools

Newbridge School

Newbridge School is an Ofsted-rated Outstanding special school academy, serving children and young people between the ages of two and nineteen years who have a complex learning difficulty, often accompanied by additional special educational needs, including:

  • Physical disabilities,
  • Sensory impairments
  • Autism
  • Associated behaviour
  • Medical needs

Being a split-site special school, the school operates two sites within one mile of each other:

  • Lower School is for pupils in Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.
  • Upper School for students in Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and 16-19.

At the end of Key Stage 2, pupils transfer from Lower School to Upper School through a well-planned transition programme based on their individual needs. This was recognised in the most recent Ofsted report, stating that school leaders and staff are effectively supporting pupils based on their unique needs. The most recent Ofsted report (November 2019) is available here.

Hatchside School

Opened in April 2021 as part of Astrum Multi Academy Trust with a focus on high-quality, multi-disciplinary assessment and early intervention, Hatchside School caters for pupils aged 2-7 years of age with a range of SEND. The school received a Good rating in its most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2023. The report particularly recognised that careful planning, including therapeutic plans devised by its therapy team and staff to meet pupils’ needs, helps them settle in quickly when they begin in the Nursery or join the school midway through their primary education. The full report can be found here.

As a result of our partnership working with the local authority, it was quickly identified that Hatchside pupils would need additional provision at the end of KS1. In collaboration with local schools and Headteachers, we were successful in identifying a site and gaining local and LA support to secure new premises and will be expanding into KS2 provision (an additional 64 pupil places) in September 2024. Owing to the successful outcomes that the trust have been able to demonstrate within our other school sites, the LA have confidence in our abilities to set up new, successful, specialist schools and provisions and continue to support our expansion plans within the local community.
